Commandant Samuel L. Breese Letter 21 June 1852

Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
June 21st 1852

Sir,
Mr. Pendergart has applied to me to know if he can deliver the brick due under his contract for the Yards. These brakes were required for the “Magazine” and “Keepers” House at Fort Norfolk: operations upon both which objects have been suspended for want of funds.
If means can be can be provided to enable us to resume work upon these buildings the bricks will be wanted for them. If not, not.
But if Mr. Pendergrart insists upon their delivery they may be received for Store House No. 14, should that building be authorized.
I should be pleased to receive your intentions upon the subject. There are about 350 thousand due.

I am Very Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
Sam. L. Breese
Captain

Comm Joseph Smith
Chief of the Bureau of Yards & Docks
Washington
