Sir:

I have the honor to state, that it is very desirable for the Navy Department to obtain the use of Old Fort Norfolk near the Gosport Navy Yard, for the purpose of erecting at that place a Powder Magazine.

As the buildings are in a very dilapidated state, and will probably never be of further use to the Department of War, I respectfully submit for your consideration the propriety of applying to the Secretary of War for a transfer of this property to the Navy Department for the purposes stated.
