Sir,
The Treasurer will remit you the following sum Dollars 764.60 to be paid to Capt. Richard S. Blackburn for his own, Lieut. George Hardy, and John Saunders, and the recruits Pay for January and February 1795 for which sum he is to be accountable and will give you duplicate receipts 328 dollars to be paid to John J. U. Rivardi at Fort Nelson for the purpose of paying the non commissioned officers and privates inlisted by Capt. William A. Lee now under the command of Lieut. William Wilson at Fort Nelson for which sum he is to be accountable and will also give you the necessary receipts – 104 dollars to be paid to Lieut. William Wilson for his pay from 1st January to 30th April 1795 for which sum please take his receipts.

Papers of the War Department is a project of the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, George Mason University with funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Fire destroyed the War Department office in 1800. For decades historians believed that its files, and the window they provide into the early federal government, had been lost forever. This collection unites copies of the lost files in a digital archive that reconstitutes this invaluable historical resource.
