Thomas C. Humphries

Thomas Humphries was born on July 8, 1833 in North Carolina.  He studied at Randolph-Macon College and later entered the mercantile business in Indiantown, Nc.  He began farming in the late  1850s.  He later served as the Sheriff of Currituck, County and as a state legislator in the 1860s.  He continued farming until he moved to Berkley in 1872.  He engaged in his mercantile business while in Berkley and later when he moved to Norfolk.  He also served as a justice of the peace, land assessor, and commissioner of the revenue.  He died in 1909.
