Joseph H. Baker, Sr., was president of the Baker Produce Corporation. 

He was born in Edenton, N.C., and moved to Norfolk as a boy in 1892.  Beginning in 1912, he engaged in the growing and distribution of produce which evolved into the creation of his own wholesale produce company.

He was Vice President of the Norfolk Rotary Club from 1937-1938 and President from 1938-1939.   He was President of the Board of the Boys’ Club of Norfolk from 1932-1935.

He also served as vice chairman of the Norfolk Democratic Executive Committee in 1940 and Chairman from 1941-1942.  He served as President of the Norfolk Branch of the National League of Wholesale Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Distributors from 1930-1939.  He was also a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club.
