Israel Steingold was a prominent lawyer in the Tidewater area for 55 years.

He was the senior partner of the firm of Steingold and Steingold of Virginia Beach and Richmond.  He was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and an associate editor of its journal.  He also served as the national chairman of its National Appellate Committee and secretary of its Railroad Law Section.  He had been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals.

He was a member of the International Bar Association, the Richmond Bar Association, and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association.  He was a sustaining member of the Commercial Law League and founder of the Roscoe Pound American Trail Lawyers Research Center.

He was a member of Ohef Sholom Temple and past president of B’rith Sholom. 

He was married to the former Norma Tonelson.
